Happy Fashion & Beauty Friday!
Welcome to Part 2 of the 3 Part "How to Dress for your Body Type" Femme Series.
This week, I am highlighting 3: Pear, Rectangle, and Hourglass. I will cover the remaining 2, next week!
Have you identified your body type yet? If not, check out "How to Dress for your Body Type" Part 1. You will find a guide on how to measure your body and identify your shape to find clothes that work best for your body type.
As discussed, no body type is “bad” it’s only a matter of how you dress for it!
Femme Body Types- How to dress for your body
Pear body types Someone with a pear body type has large hips which are wider than the bust and shoulders. This body shape has a defined waist, and proportionately slim arms and shoulders. The key to dressing this body shape is to take attention away from the wider hips and to draw it towards the upper body and defined waist instead.
You want to create the illusion of volume on the upper body while emphasizing the waist and de-emphasising the lower body to create a balanced silhouette.
Tip 1: Focus on structured shoulders to visually widen the shoulder line
Tip 2: Invest in a good push-up bra to lift your chest
Tip 3: Wear bright colours on your upper body
Tip 4: Use eye-catching prints, textures and details strategically to create interest on top
Tip 5: Wear fitted clothes to accentuate the waist
Tip 6: Layering on your top half creates visual interest and draws the eye upwards
Tip 7: Keep away from boxy or oversized tops that hide the waist

Rectangle body types -To determine if you are a rectangle body shape, look at yourself in the mirror in your underwear. Stand with your legs together and your arms a bit away from your sides. Examine the area from under your arms, past your bust and ribcage, over your waist and hips to the fullest part of your thighs. Then compare yourself to the image and review the questions and characteristics below. We suggest you look at all the body shapes to find your closest match.
Tip 1: Most jumpsuit and playsuit styles are great for the rectangle body as long as you keep the waist defined.
Tip 2: Add a narrow or medium size belt – either at your waist or under your bust to pull it visually in. Or opt for a drawstring jumpsuit. Leg-wise, wide leg or straight leg are good
Tip 3: Aim for fitted blazers, flowy fabrics
Tip 4: Avoid vertical stripes and square necklines

Hourglass body types -If your hips and bust are nearly equal in size and you have a well-defined waist that’s narrower than both, you have an hourglass shape. Your legs and upper body are probably considered proportionate. Your shoulders may be slightly rounded, and you most likely have a rounded buttocks.Form-fitting or tailored clothing have traditionally been designed with this body type in mind.
Tip 1: Wear well fitted clothes for everyday wear, because they contain the structure to flatter the curvy figure of the hourglass shape. This includes well-tailored jackets or blazers, coats with a belt, and casual dresses that are fitted at the waist
Tip 2: You will want to wear mostly V-shaped tops or tops with a deep neckline. High necklines will just make your bust area look too bulky
Tip 3: Look for dresses that fit your boobs and elongate your waist. They should fit very snugly around that area.
Tip 4: If you have some weight around the abdomen then make sure you buy your dress in supportive fabric.
